Last fall while the air was crisp and the colorful leaves were falling from the sky, I thought it would be fun to come up with a wood working project. So, I decided to build a coffee table. I thought a coffee table was appropriate considering I knew I would eventually be moving out of my parents house and I would someday need furniture.
To get some ideas, Meredith and I went to a few furniture stores around Fairfax. After I was inspired, I made several attempts to draw out my plans but, I just couldn’t get what I saw in my head onto paper so basically without any structured plans I decided to wing it.
Meredith and I went to Lowes and after many tough decisions we bought some wood. Little did I know, this was the first of a hundred times that I would be going to Lowes to get something for the table.
I used dowels to put the top of the table together.
It took A LOT of adjusting to get the alignment just right.
After I finished constructing the top, I noticed it was raised in the middle so, of course I tried standing on it to make it flat… I ended up just leaving weights on it for a few days.
The legs were tricky. I ended up using my friend Rickys scroll saw to cut out the legs. For each leg I used two pieces of wood that I fashioned together.
I really liked the way that the stain came out, I was going for an antique rustic look.
Through perseverance and seven months, I finally finished making my coffee table!
