What a Process…

I have never been tech savvy and therefore the process to creating my blog took quite a while. As I sat in class last Thursday and learned that I would have to create a blog, I had no idea where to start. Of course I put the whole process off until Monday afternoon when I could meet up with Khrystie to figure it out together. Scrolling through the directions provided by ds106 caused major anxiety. After trying to figure it out for a few minutes, Khrystie and I decided to call Abby for some guidance. Soon, I figured out how to pick out my domain name through hover.com. I even found a coupon code which made the domain name three dollars cheaper! After I thought I purchased my domain name, I decided to use hostgator.com as my webhost because I had heard from some classmates that it was cheaper and better than castironcoding. I was able to sign up for hostgator without a problem and thought I was done with the whole process. Little did I know there was much more to be done.

After realizing that I had not yet pointed my domain to my webhost, I quickly set out to accomplish this task, but got stuck when the tech support couldn’t even help me. It seemed that I was missing the whole name-server option on my hover account. I panicked because I didn’t know what to do. Needless to say I didn’t get much sleep the night before class because my blog wasn’t ready. Thankfully there was nothing to worry about the next day. Our class spent time helping one another set up our blogs. With Bridgette’s help I was able to figure out what happened…my transaction for my domain name did not go through. Turns out I didn’t check the agreement about following hover’s copyright or something and therefore never purchased my domain name. That was a fix quick though and I was soon able to point my domain to my webhost. Then I waited…and waited…and waited for a supposed e-mail telling me I was ready to go with my blog. It never came and again I went to class today in a panic still without a blog.

But not to worry because with Abby’s help I figured out what I still hadn’t done: register with wordpress. Having done that, my blog is ready to go! I still need to play around with it, but its all a learning process. I couldn’t have set my blog up without everyone’s help so thank you!

More blogs to come!
