Cyber Infrastructures

What is a cyberinfrastructure? After watching Campbell’s video and reading his article, I have realized the importance of each person having their own personal cyberinfrastructure. My definition of a personal cyberinfrastructure is a virtual space in which you create your own identity (or identities) and share you own story, thoughts, creations, and opinions. One way to look at it is that the standards of learning have long been structured in a way where we are taught to think a certain way – the “right” way. However, through a cyberinfrastructure, that is not that case. Instead, you direct your own learning. There is no structure, your creativity shapes everything.

Additionally, as Campbell stated in his article, having this type of digit fluency puts individuals in a competitive advantage in the future. I was reading in Fortune Magazine an article titled “The Future,” which stated, “If the winning companies of the future will depend on young, tech-savvy, somewhat impertinent information junkies, the US will still rule.” This just showed me how important it is to be ahead in the digital world, for that is what future companies will rely on to stay ahead. That’s why it is extremely important to have these skills – and I’m glad to be given the opportunity by taking this class which allows me to have my own personal learning environment!
