Visual Assignment 1 – An Album Cover

So after our class tonight, I was inspired to begin on my Assignments. I figured I’d start with a relatively easy one, so I chose “An Album Cover”. Rating: ??

The assignment has you go to Wikipedia‘s random page and choose your (fictional) band’s name, then go to The Quotation Page‘s random quotes page and use the last 5 words of the last quote on the page to get your album’s name, and then go to Flickr‘s interesting pictures of the last 7 days and choose the third picture that comes up, and that is your album cover. You then put those elements together in a creative way, and upload it. Sounded pretty painless to me.

The information I came up with after doing all those things is this:

Band Name: Smolna Street, which is a street in Warsaw, Poland

Album Name: Nothing Is Any Of Your Business, from a quote by Lenny Bruce that says, “When you are eight years old, nothing is any of your business.”

Album Cover: this picture of a man’s silhouette holding a camera

I just downloaded Gimp, and haven’t quite figured it out yet, but that’s what I used to make this. I don’t love it, and I may try again later, but this is what I have so far:

I like this assignment, and I think was interesting, but I do wish I knew more about Gimp, or another kind of photo editing software, because I think I could have done something a little more attractive than this.
