And We Have a Finished Product

This day has finally come – our radio show is finished! It’s been a rough week for us at the Live Outdoors…

Monday, 5 March 2012: I wrote up my script and put it on the group google doc to let everyone see it and record their lines by Tuesday night.

Wednesday, 7 March 2012: We all met at Simpson to smooth out some rough patches. We were supposed to meet to record transitions and put the show together, but unfortunately, that was not possible! With confusion over who was recording what and failure to e-mail recordings to the right person, we had to iron out some wrinkles. We left Wednesday with each of our sections finished and only minor edits left to fix (or so we thought).

Friday, 9 March 2012: After recording my part for the documentary and e-mailing that off to Abbie, I was waiting for everyone else’s part to be sent to me so I could assemble the final show. Tim was sending the transitions and the intro/outro, Rachel, Abbie and Liz were sending their sections. Then all I would have to do is a cut and paste of sorts. Easy, right? Well, after work Friday I checked to see if e-mails were in and I had received three of the four parts. So, I decided to wait until Saturday to put everything together.

Saturday, 10 March 2012: Still no forth part in my inbox. So, I send an e-mail and decide to wait another day.

Sunday, 11 March 2012: After work, I came home ready to assemble the show…still no forth part. So, I assemble everything, record the missing part just in case it doesn’t come in and hope for the best. Around 2AM, I finally received the forth part and was able to put everything together.

Concluding thoughts – I actually had a lot of fun messing around with the theme and creating this show. Unfortunately, group projects are usually stressful and in this case definitely affected our performance. Thankfully, everything came together in the end. I was concerned there for a couple hours last night, but in the end I think it turned out pretty good. I am excited about this show and I think it is funny and clever. In the end, I learned a lot about producing a radio show. I understand how difficult it is to tell a story and convey a message using only voice and sound. It is an interesting concept and I enjoyed this project. However, it definitely made my spring break very stressful!
