As you all probably know by now (because I cannot help but talk about it all the time), I went to Italy last summer. So, one of the daily creates was to display a picture that shows your favorite religious architecture. Naturally, I chose St. Peter’s Basilica AKA the Vatican. This is the ideal place of worship for all Catholics and I probably went there about 5-8 times. I even sat through a mass! Although it was all in Latin (I believe? if not Italian), it was an amazing experience. The inside of this basilica is unbelievable. I have never seen something so beautifully decorated. My favorite part of it was definitely La Pieta by Michelangelo, something he sculpted when he was 22 years old – pictures do not do it justice. I was amazed by the emotion a piece of stone could portray. One thing about italy: it made me feel so unaccomplished! SO many talented artists, architects, etc lived there and did so much at such a young age. We have so much catching up to do! Well anyways, here it is! My favorite religious place of worship; partly due to it’s architecture and partly to do with the history/meaning behind it.
This is the inside- one of the pieces of art and examples of architecture.
La Pieta by Michelangelo – even more beautiful in person.
The Ceiling – my favorite part of every basilica in Italy.
