I thought this group did a great job choosing a topic which would be fitting for a call in show. All the extras — radio show poster, bumpers and such — fit the concept well, and I especially liked that they used their bumper as a way to further explain their show rather than just reminding the listener what was going on.
Their concept sets them up for the challenge of displaying a wide selection of those personalities which make up the 7 billion people on the planet while still making the stories they present accessible to an equally varied audience. So I loved that they built their show out of different voices which showed distinct personalities, rather than sharing only their own stories. I also thought it was a good idea to have variety in the show topics. I kind of word blurted in class about how depressing the story about the dog was — but it was good because it wasn’t what I was expecting from a section of stories about heartbreak, and bits of unexpectedness can work well for keeping audience interest.
Something I hadn’t really thought about until we listened to all the other shows in class is how important the pace of the show is, and in relation to that, I felt many of the stories would have been better a bit shorter. Although, I imagine it would be difficult to edit some of them, especially those stories which were collected from people outside of the group. I thought one of the best parts of their show was the pet peeve segment — the pacing was refreshing and I wish they had played with more sections like that.
Aside from that, my biggest suggestion would be to have some more sounds in general. The sounds they used were edited in very well, but it felt a little too sparse. Perhaps some kind of background ambiance throughout the show, or even smaller bits of sound in the transitions between different stories.
