I participated in a Tweet chat at 7pm this evening with English Teachers from around the world. It was such an awesome experience and I learned so much. The main focus of the chat was authentic writing. So many teachers were asking what constitutes authentic writing and I was proud to see so many of my classmates chime in to give our opinions. And the best part? The teachers listened to us and liked our ideas. In response to the question at hand, I said that authentic writing occurs when students have a voice and can be published. When they are publish, they realize that their writing matters and they are not just writing for the teacher.
I was involved in a conversation with one teacher about blogging. She said that she blogs, but hasn’t made the leap with her students. I responded that I loved blogging because it was authentic and I saw so many people actual reading my work from around the world and this made me proud. I was happy to see the teachers listen to what I had to say about my experiences as a pre-service teacher.
I think my experiences with the twitter chat was very important and beneficial to me. I was able to read the other tweets and hear feedback from other teachers as to what works in the classroom. I would definitely participate in a chat again!
