Women and Body Image

This video was extremely interesting and inspiring for a growing young woman. It is amazing to me to see how many young ladies out there struggle with self-esteem and body image. I know I have friends who struggled, friends who are beautiful and still think otherwise. This video, in all honesty made me angry at the media. Why do women need to be portrayed as perfect? News Flash!!! We are not, and we don’t have to be. It saddens me to think how many girls out there struggle with eating disorders, depression and self-respect due to the media always telling them they have to change. You cannot believe everything you see in the media, because a lot of it is not true. Taking a look at this video, I am well aware of reliable vs. non-reliable narrators especially when it comes to products I am looking to purchase of women who I am trying to be. I call it the “photoshop diet.” It is the only way these women look flawless.

This video made me reflect upon a conversation I had recently with my mother. My mother used to model so she knows all about the tweaking behind making models look flawless. We were sitting down the other day watching television when a commercial for Revlon mascara came on. Here this commercial is trying to promote how fabulous and long your lashes will look after a simple application of this magical product. When in reality, the model in the commercial has false lashes on. Deceiving.

Here is a preview of the video…I could only link the trailer, but I am sure if you would like to watch the entire video you could google and download it. Highly recommended!!!
