After reviewing some of the submissions on in[SPIRE], I found Hugo Meets Inception to be the most compelling to me for many different reasons.  There is one reason why and that reason is that I absolutely LOVE mashup videos.  I go to YouTube sometimes and just view related mashup videos because they are that fun to me.  The thing that I like the most about them is that you can add something like the audio of the Inception trailer to HUNDREDS of different videos and get a completely different emotion every single time. It’s always different.

I’ve seen a lot of Inception/Other-movie mashups, but I’ve never seen one with Hugo.  I absolutely loved both movies, so it was really awesome to see the two of them together.  In that aspect, it makes it really special to me because I found both movies to be extremely interesting and highly entertaining.  I love long movies.  Any time there is time in a movie for the character development and the plot to really progress, I find myself coming out of the theater having enjoyed myself.

Reflecting on what I thought a digital story was in my previous blog post, I would have to say that this is definitely a digital story because someone has created something that has sparked a specific emotion inside of me.  The emotion that I feel may differ completely from what someone else feels, but it still sparks an emotion.  Someone took their time in making the video and carefully making sure that it all matched up appropriately and effectively.  Watching the trailer for Hugo but hearing the audio from Inception, a new story is told.  It’s not that I was watching the trailer for Hugo and listening to the audio of Inception, but I was caught in the middle of the both of them.  It was a prefect blend of both movies and I highly enjoyed watching this.  Actually, I’ve watched it a few times already.

For me, there is definitely more to the digital story than just an audio and video mashup.  For me, like I’ve said already, it sparked an emotion.  It actually makes me want to go and make my own trailer mashup.  I’ve seen too many of them to not try it myself and now I think I will.

For that, I would say that this digital story was a huge success.  Not only was it amazing to watch, but it sparked enough interest in me to want to try it myself.  I think that’s one of the most important aspects of digital storytelling.  If you create something so unique, you may very well inspire others (hence the in[SPIRE] site) to want to try something on their own.
