The ups and downs of VEGAS.

The movie What Happens in Vegas is one of my FAVORITES. It is a romantic comedy starring Cameron Diaz, as Joy and Ashton Kutcher, as Jack. I thought this would be an awesome movie to apply Kurt Vonnegut’s story shape idea because the two main characters have lots of ups and downs.

At first, Joy feels on top of the world because she has the perfect job and an awesome fiancé. Then Joy plans a surprise birthday party for her fiancé and he dumps her as soon as he walks in. All of their closest friends are still hiding and overhear EVERYTHING. Joy has hit rock bottom.

Joy and her best friend go to Vegas to cheer up. In Vegas, Joy meets Jack. They party all night and get completely trashed. The next morning, Joy wakes up with a ring on a very important finger.

When Joy and Jack go to court to get a divorce, the judge sentences them to “six months of hard marriage.” He wants them to give the marriage a shot. They give it a shot and HATE each other. Joy thinks Jack is a disgusting pig and Jack thinks Joy is an annoying control freak.

After the six months is up, the judge allows them to get divorced since they showed that they tried and the marriage still didn’t work out.

Joy and Jack must have really fallen in love during their marriage. Once they were divorced they were both extremely depressed because they missed each other. Joy realized that she was who she really wanted to be when she was with Jack and Jack realized that Joy was the only person who ever believed in him. Not much time passed before Jack went after Joy and they got back together.

And as far as I know they lived happily ever after.
