Photoblitz Review

This week, we got down and dirty with some visual assignments, beginning with the photoblitz. This assignment was hard for me to get very much done in, because I am kind of a perfectionist when it comes to taking pictures. In the twenty minute time frame I really only got five pictures taken, that I found decent enough to blog about. This worked out for me, considering that we only needed five good ones. My perfectionism definitely holds me back from completing tasks efficiently. However, if you want to see the pictures I took, here’s the post that I attached them to. They are pretty good.

As far as looking at other people’s results from the photoblitz, I saw a lot that I liked, but I would have to say, my friend Enisa has really good pictures–I might be biased, as she is my friend, but I actually really liked the way her pictures came out. She added a personal touch to them too by using people she knew, and places she goes to often (the soccer field) and things that she sees. I dig it. There were other various photos that I liked within the ds106photoblitz site. Especially the one with hands. People did some cool things with hands (holding hands, hands using or holding something, etc.)

Daily Dose of Creativity

1. My Eggheads

Father & Brother

This is a picture of my dad and my brother, both who are hairless, and thus, eggheads. My father is a retired helicopter pilot, and my older brother is currently a helicopter pilot (both in the Navy). And so, it is cool to hear their stories, and listen to what they have to say about the military lifestyle. I love my brother and papa bear. Here’s to them and their shiny heads.

2. Abstract Drawing of my Favorite Animal

Abstract

My favorite animal is (I know, weird) a sheep. I grew up with a stuffed animal sheep named Baba that I carried everywhere with me until the age of seven. Needless to say by that age he was pretty worn out. I couldn’t sleep though unless I had him by my side. Luckily my mom salvaged his remains before he was completely tattered.

3. Painted Advertisements

Heck's Meat Co.

I grew up in a small town in Nevada, and this was the only painted advertisement in the whole of the town. Coincidentally, it was also the first painted advertisement that came to mind when I was doing this daily create. It was a big to-do in Fallon to get your picture taken in front of this advertisement–people liked saying that they were “Fallon’s Finest since [insert birth year here].”

To add to the Daily Create site, I suggested the topic of taking a picture of your favorite thing about Halloween. Maybe it will get picked up since Halloween is just around the corner! I am optimistic.

Ten Stars Worth

Yes, I completed my visual assignments. Yes, I think I did a good job executing the picture and meeting all of the requirements within the assignments. And yes, I loved doing them all. Where I slacked was posting the blog about them–as in, it took me all week to write up what my creative process was. I had drafts on drafts on drafts of shit in my WordPress this week. Because I would finish the picture, and edit it to exactly where I wanted it, post it to flickr, attach it to my blog, and then just… yeah. Exactly. It’s not that it is hard to write about what I did to complete each picture. It’s that I was unmotivated to write about it. But I got it done. And these are the finished result of my visual assignments this week:

Before & After

Each assignment was 2 stars, and I did 5 of them. Hat-cha! (You can learn about the creative process by looking at them in my previous posts: A Blue Hue, Mayani Bird Sanctuary, Oh So Edgy, Windex, and House of Kabob)

Generalities

Ahhhh, this week, has been crazy. I feel like I am just about to catch my breath for the first time after I write this post. I am so glad I have a smart phone with a sweet ass camera on it, because it brings me so much joy to take pictures with. Seriously. It is the reason I am a decent photographer. Also, using an iPhone camera, I don’t think I really learned a whole lot this week about photography, because I have been learning about photography ever since I got an iPhone (about a year now).  Photography is definitely a hobby of mine now for about a year too. I have taken over 1,000 pictures with my iPhone alone. That is a lot. It is also a lot of practice in the art of photography. So, honestly, didn’t learn a whole lot this week. Just got to show off the work of something that I enjoy doing. Photos are one of my favorite ways to tell a story. A picture is worth a thousand words. But actually. Why do you think the interwebs is so full of memes, and “fail” photos? Because they are funny. And because capturing a specific moment in a photo is priceless. It’s something that you will be able to remember for the rest of your life.

Overall, this week was exciting for me, and fun. (Not as scary as last week). And I enjoy telling a good visual story.

Radio Show Projectttt

I think Matt (from Group 2) is typing up the summary for this tonight. We couldn’t get a google hangout going, but we have been communicating (some of us) via canvas, and gmail all week to figure out what we want to do. There are two people that are MIA in our group though. So, I’m not really sure what’s going on with them (Hello? Are you in there?) but it’d be nice if we could all get our shit together. My shit is so not together right now. Hopefully, after this hellish week, I will be able to get my shit more together. (I love that phrase, in case you couldn’t tell.)
