Week 6 was like Week 5 but vamped up with a taste for design. This we I created art, altered existing pieces, and examined art in my environment. We had to do an assignment similar to the Photoblitz this week, so I had to beg my girlfriend for her camera back…and then I forced her to go on a walk downtown with me so I could take photos. Luckily the rain decided to hold off this week.
Our main assignment was a Designblitz which asked us to take photos throughout the week of different designs in our surroundings. More can be found about my blitz here and here is the majority of the photos that I took:
This week we also had to create 15 stars worth of Design Assignments. What that means, each assignment has a “star rating” 1-5. The harder the assignment, the more stars awarded. This week I paid more attention to the quality of the work I was doing, so without further ado;
Assignment#1 started the week easy because we were supposed to “Zombify” ourselves…or anyone really.
Assignment#2 was to create a “This is what I do” meme. I created a meme that described what I do as a member of my volunteer rescue squad. And although I could have used GIMP to design this, I used a generator…just like Assignment#1…@cogdog noticed that a lot of students(or maybe he posted and hoped I would read it…) were doing these assignments and wanted us to be more elaborate in our creations and explain our designs. So after this assignment, the rest of the Assignments are created entirely by yours truly and grow with elaboration!
Assignment#3 was a required assignment to make a design for a poster or t-shirt for our DS106 radio show. I received good feedback on the creation I made and really appreciated how other people viewed what I made.
Assignment#4 was to find my name in the environment. I thought Rob was too short, so I decided to use Robert. I used mostly signs because finding “Robert” in the environment is harder than you think!
Assignment#5 as I was getting more comfortable with GIMP, I started spreading my wings a little more and created a remix of To Kill A Mockingbird into an internet children’s book called To Kill A Thunderbird. Check it out!
Assignment#6 was to create an app. So, naturally, I created a life-saving app. Literally. This was my absolute favorite assignment this week and I did everything I could to do it right. Someone want to head this one up and make me a lot of money? THANKS!! (I may not make millions off of it, but it does get me to 15/15 stars!)
Can’t forget the daily creates, we had to do four this week. Unfortunately, most of them didn’t really appeal to me, but I made do with my options.
TDC267 was “Today is World Vegetartian Day” and I put a little seasonal spin on this. Sure, a lot of people thing green vegetables, but since it’s fall, I decided to use pumpkins!
TDC268 was to “imagine your own personal font”, sticking true to the season, I created a font that created each letter into little ghosts!
TDC270 was “From memory, draw the floor plan of the house you grew up in”. As I was drawing it, I could tell I was messing up the areas of some rooms, but for the most part it’s pretty accurate! (I think!)
And for the last TDC273, we had to “Take a photo that encompasses nothing”, so since there is NOTHING near our dining table in our apartment, I decided to show that! Anyone want to supply us with chairs? Or maybe a nice basket for fruit?
WRTZ Radio Show! I actually got to meet with my group this week! I’m glad they were friendly and had a good sense of humor. I also am glad that they had a plan and were ready to execute when we met…although it took 2 hours instead of the 1 I had hoped…so I missed a meeting at my rescue station, but no biggie, I had fun! This week we began writing our script and what roles each member would play. My individual contribution it going to be supplying my stunning voice for the show, creating a bumper, and also a commercial. If you want to know more about the show, you’ll have to tune in when we broadcast! (Or you could go get a spoiler from my Assignment#3 earlier in the post!
