1O STARS AUDIO

This assignment is called “Seuss it.” It is audio assignment 562 and it is worth 3 stars.(View original post)

The assignment read:

“Take a Dr. Seuss book, or perhaps the Berenstain Bears, or one of your own favorites, and read it to us. Give me your best Yertle the Turtle, or Lorax, or Mama Bear and have fun!”
As soon as I saw this assignment in the repository, I knew I absolutely had to do it! Dr. Seuss books played a huge role in my childhood. He probably deserves most of the credit for teaching me to read. We had an awesome collection of Dr. Seuss books! I think at one point I had a few memorized. I would read them for hours, even out loud to my little sister sometimes.
Choosing which book to use for this assignment was very difficult because I really do love them all! I thought hard about which one to read and finally decided on “Oh, the Places You’ll Go.” When I graduated high school my mom gave my two best friends and I a copy of “Oh, the Places You’ll Go” and inside the front covers she wrote a personal letter to each of us. In the letter she said why she was proud of each of us and things that she sees in each of our futures. I thought this was a good choice for the assignment because I really like the messages with in the book. Even though it is a children’s book the underlying message can really apply to our adult lives.
This assignment was pretty simple! I recorded it in Audacity and then uploaded it to soundcloud. It was a little time consuming because I recorded it a few times before I was content with the way it sounded.

This is audio assignment 494, worth 3 stars. (View original post)

It is called “Mainstream Chipmunkd” and the details were:

“The object of this assignment is to take a mainstream artist and chipmunk them. As we reflect on our childhoods we realize that all the chipmunks were an awesome bunch and it is really easy to do this assignment. All you need is any kind of musical editing software like MIXXX and Virtual DJ (which are free). Second either raise the BPM (beats per minute) or edit pitch of the track. If it is a slower track just raise the tempo and try to give the song an upbeat personality. Make sure to tag your assignment and have fun!

Over the past few years Justin Bieber has been in the spotlight. Whether someone is worshiping him or putting him down, I hear his name a lot! Justin even has life-size cardboard cutouts of himself. I know this because my little sister has one in her room. It catches me off guard EVERY time, it scares me whenever I walk into her room.

I don’t really listen to much of his music unless I am with my sister, it isn’t really my style. I decided to use his song “Boyfriend” for this assignment because I thought it would be really funny to hear it in a chipmunk voice. It is basically about him wanting to be someone’s boyfriend, and now it’s a chipmunk wanting to be the boyfriend. I like this version SO much better and who wouldn’t want a chipmunk as a boyfriend?

I used Audacity to create this. It was pretty simple, I just speed up the tempo of the song (under effects).

This is 4 star audio assignment,”The One-Man Play.” It is audio assignment 567.  (View original post)

The instructions were:

“Act out a scene from a play by yourself, using different voices for different characters. Have fun with this!”

I loved this assignment! The hardest part was choosing which scene to actually do. After lots of time looking at different scenes, I finally decided on the last scene of Willy Wonka. It begins in Wonka’s office where Mr. Wonka is testing Charlie. Charlie passes the test and wins! Not only does Charlie win the life time supply of chocolate. HE WINS THE WHOLE FACTORY. Wonka wants a child to take over the factory, not an adult who may want to change things.

I really like that part of this scene where Charlie places the gobstopper on Willy Wonka’s desk instead of giving it to sluggworth. It showed what great character Charlie had!

I googled a script for the musical. Then I used Audacity to record the final scene and export it as an Mp3. I seemed to struggle with the voices. I tried really hard to sound like a man, but I don’t think I am fooling anyone. Its funny to hear me try though! :)

DAILY CREATES

October 8, 2012: Extreme Edit!

“Take a photo, then edit that photo to the eXtreme, making the photo eXtraordinary…”

10-8

I took this photo of the link between Mason and Randolph because I really like this new building. It was definitely a pleasant edition to campus. I edited it in GIMP. I inverted the colors, posterized, and cartooned this photo. I think it looks pretty cool!

October 11, 2012: Non-Dominant Emotion!

“Draw the best picture you can of a human emotion using your non-dominant hand.”

human emotion

I drew a picture using Paint of a baby crying. …Its what they do best! I used paint to draw this and my right hand (I’m left handed!)

October 12, 2012: In the morning

“Take picture of the first thing you do in the morning (toothbrush, computer, etc.)”

Check my phone!

I took a photo of my phone. The first thing I do in the morning is dismiss my alarm (on my phone) and check my text messages.

October 15, 2012: Fences and Walls

“Fences and walls can divide or demarcate. Make a creative photo of a fence or wall today”

This is a photo of a wall in my dorm room. This quote is cut out of magazine pages. It took my roommate and I all night to do it. We are super proud of it!

October 18, 2012: Someone Who Means a Lot

“Take a photo of someone/something that means a lot to you. What is its story?”

My sister

I took a photo of my little sister and I. My sister is extremely important to me! When we were younger we would constantly fight and bicker, but now she is one of my best friends!

October 19, 2012: Movie recording

“Record yourself repeating words from a favorite movie”

I chose a scene from Finding Nemo. I recorded myself as Dory. This is the scene where Dory forgets she is showing him someone and just assumes he is a creep following her.

 UNUSED MEDIA

“Sneeze” – When I was trying to record for “One-man play” I kept sneezing. I decided to save one of my sneezes for the dropbox…You’re welcome.

“It’s happening” – I created this for “Say it like peanut butter” but I didn’t use it. Something about it just wasn’t up to par. I used two others instead

“Hometown” – I created this for an assignment but I misunderstood the instructions. It was suppose to be an ANIMATED poster advertising your home town. My piggy doesn’t move :( Hes cute though so I like to share him!

“Walk in walk up” – I took this photo on my design safari but I didn’t use it because I wasn’t able to apply it to any of the categories. I really like the concept though!

REFLECTION

Our radio show group was road trip radio. We all began communicating through Canvas. This is where we decided on the road trip radio drama. We didn’t really have a debate about it, we just sort of automatically went with it and all agreed. After that we set up a google doc. The google doc was much more efficient for planing our our radio show, it was my first experience with using google doc for a group project. I officially love it! The easiest part of working in a group was having others to bounce ideas off of and to improve your own ideas. The hardest part was trying to all meet up, turns out all five of us are extremely busy people, but we made it work. Also since this is an online course we weren’t able to see each other in class or anything.

When deciding who I wanted my character to be, I automatically wanted to be the control freak mom. It just seemed like a fun role to play. I don’t think it was out of my comfort zone necessarily, I am just a shy person so audio kind of  intimidates me. I did my best to keep it together while recording though.

I think our show is pieced together pretty well, especially for first timers. I am sure after a few more radio shows you would definitely be able to see improvement. I think we got the message of our show across to anyone who may listen to it.

After this radio show, I can definitely see that I improved a ton from when we began audio. Especially with audacity! I feel like a semi-pro now (not really, but definitely more knowledgeable). I had fun with the radio show and the audio unit but I am relieved they are OVER. …They are over right??
