Mashup Assignment #1 – Movie Trailer Mashup – 4 Stars

This assignment was SO MUCH FUN!  At the beginning of the semester, I reviewed a Hugo mashup that I really loved and have been thinking about all semester.  This assignment was the same sort of assignment and I had a blast creating it.

I used the audio from the 300 trailer and the video from the How To Train Your Dragon trailer.  I used Firefox to download both trailers and then I uploaded them into FCPX.  From there, I just detached the audio from How To Train Your Dragon and then cut out 99% of the dialogue sections of the trailer.  I then overlayed the audio from 300 and then exported the file.

It was a lot easier than expected and I had a complete blast messing around with the cuts in FCPX and making sure that it all matched.  When I was selecting my two clips, I just went to IMDB and searched for a war movie (300) and then went to the top rated movies and saw How To Train Your Dragon.  If you can, watch the trailer for How To Train Your Dragon first BEFORE you watch my clip.  I want you all to see how much it really changes the meaning of the movie.

It’s amazing what a little editing can do in terms of how much audio can change a visual representation of something.  I think it’s amazing what I’ve accomplished just by changing the audio of the trailer.

I’ve titled my work ’300 Dragons’
