Have we had a real mandatory assignment lately? I can’t even remember! But lucky us(DS106 students) this assignment could count towards mash-up stars, woohoo! I don’t need all the stars, but let’s see what I can whip up when I Recycle The Media.
“Your task for this assignment is to mashup at least 7 different pieces of this media to make a new story, and use at least 2 different types (e.g. audio and image, image and video). The story most likely would be done as a video, but see if you can make these different kinds of media make sense as the content. What kind of recycled story can you make out of this cast off media?”
Where can I find recycled media?! In the Recycle Bin of course! Earlier in the semester we were asked to drop 4 pieces of unused media into the bin. Well it really adds up when you have 2 whole sections of students dropping in media! However, it was hard for me to find something to tell a story with. I even watched other students examples and still wasn’t getting that feel, ya know? So I chugged along and came up with the idea of my trip to the zoo. But then I realized, “Well, I have tons of images of animals, but I don’t have different types of media besides that.” Then I stumbled upon these:
and I had an eerie, yet awesome story that popped into my mind. There was one other photo I had in mind, but that would give away the twist, but anyways, here is the story:
Okay, this may seem cruel, or disgusting, or just whatever it is against your morals…but I thought it was a funny little story to tell with the recycled media I had to work with. The video was a little quiet without having the music from the awesome Rick Astley and Eduard Khil. Does this make me a troll now? I sure hope not!
