Well on this adventure far away from my comfort zone I seemed to have found myself signing up for all sorts of social media, as well as enchanting my skills on ones that I feel more comfortable with. So like most things dealing with bootcamp, I am going to address this weekly summary with order, I mean us princesses have to be organized to run a whole land!
Nugget Reflection
First first “nugget” of information comes from the Robert Huges on what art is video that we needed to watch. He states that the purpose of art is to make the world whole and comprehensible, which I originally thought was a whole bunch of crap. I got to thinking about it and I realized that art is all completely relative to each person. I think that cooking is an art, a talent which I don’t have, but still an art. Does the way basil fall on a plate make the world whole? Maybe not, but it is enough to get someone kicked off of the TV show Top Chef, thus making it important. So now as I enter the ds106 world I will certainly find myself not only creating art, but also appreciating a new and modern kind of art.
Looking at the video of where good ideas come from I am instantly appreciating how people need to work together to get something powerful. Collaboration is key and just from week one of bootcamp I can tell that I am going to be relying greatly on my fellow ds106ers (or noble steeds as I like to call them) for not only help, but inspiration for the various assignments. Between this video and this class, I already have been opened to a whole new world where people really are just looking out for each other and are willing to help in a second. While I personally am not the biggest people person (a quality this princess needs to work on) I can certainly tell that I am going to have to be willing to reach out to succeed in this classroom environment.
My final “nugget” is based on the picture I love the rule number 4 which states “consider everything an experiment”. This class is a new experience and almost everything is new, so why not try to experiment with all these new accounts and figure out how things work. I’m looking forward to a semester long experiment with battling the evil technology.
Daily Create
On Tuesday I found myself very anxious to see what the daily create could be, and I was certainly stumped at first by the challenge. Being a math geek pretty much throughout my life, I have discovered that I need to go to Costco and buy a bulk size of creative juices just so I can get them flowing. Having never uploaded a YouTube video, I was pleasantly surprised to see how simple it was but the only thing I needed now was a topic to talk about, which eventually presented itself, and you can see it for yourself right here!
I tried to find as many videos as I could just to see what other noble steeds came up with, and it looks like there are certainly very creative people in our class, so I’m excited to see how their work turns up throughout the semester! Good work fellow ds106ers!!
Links
Another interesting thing that happened during bootcamp was making different social media accounts. I already have been very active with twitter since I am going on my third year with it now. Although twitter is very familiar with me, I still needed to do my hello tweet to the ds106 community, and this is how it went.
However something that I was new on was Flickr as well as a sound cloud. I
have had a YouTube account for a while but I have never actually used it for uploading things, only just making some playlists.
In addition to these new accounts, I also was introduced to the beautiful world of WordPress, and I got to write an about me page. Let me tell you, describing myself in a small paragraph is quite the feat.
Reflection to ds106
My first week of ds106 was definitely an experience, it opened my eyes to a whole new world of digital storytelling (what an appropriate name for the class!). While this first week was not hard, it certainly is a great way to get acquainted with the new technology and websites. WordPress still seems to be very confusing for me, unless I’m on my iPad, so I need to figure that out for sure. I am really looking forward to see what other students come up with, and I am excited to test my creativity. Looking at different daily creates, I know that my creative ideas will be tested and pushed to their limits, and I’m anxious for the challenge. As for things that I am dreading, I think all the writing will be tough, as I am not much one for writing being a math major and all. And the only question I have is are you ready for a semester of disney princess loving!?!
