The Shape of a Story

This week we had the task of watching a video on Kurt Vonnegut’s approach to storytelling. From his video and looking at Maya Eilam’s infographic- I decided to go with the “Boy meets Girl” approach, except in the movie I chose it will be the girl who loses the boy, instead of the other way around.

Boy meets Girl

For this assignment I chose the movie  – How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days.

If you aren’t familiar with the movie here is a trailer of the film.

Synopsis:

Andie (Kate Hudson) works for a magazine and is told to write a story on “How to lose a guy in 10 days.” Ben (Matthew McConaughey) is a self-proclaimed ladies man and he places a bet that he can win the love of any woman in 10 days. Andie and Ben happen to meet at an event later on that night and so begins this interesting relationship. Andie does everything in her power to annoy and make been crazy so he will dump her, but Ben (wanting to win the bet) holds on and does everything he can to please Andie. But in the process of it all, Andie really falls in love with Ben and she is stuck at a crossroads – write the article or stay with Ben. Andie is forced into writing the article by her boss and Ben can’t handle the truth (as expected). But in the end, as any good love story ends, Andie and Ben move Andie’s article and both realize that they truly do love and care for one another.

To represent this story and show Kurt’s shape ideas I drew a pictures.

I also made a video to clarify and give more detail to the picture, if you’d like to watch.

Digital Storytelling

I chose the video Found: Lost Pictures of New York Blizzard found out the ds106 subreddit page.

First off, this is a really cool story and I saw at the end of the video that that man found the owner of the pictures, so I’m excited to watch the other two videos he made an see how it turned out.

Secondly, I consider this video digital storytelling because the man uses his camera and film to tell us a story about his life and his adventures. He filmed the video in a very creative manners, he also showed the pictures he got off of the roll of film. His story (plus the help of Youtube) allowed him to find the owners of these pictures.
