Making Music

One day in the winter of her third year at Mercury, the Fandom Princess was sitting in on a Game of Thrones fan club meeting when someone brought up the idea of creating a musical band. The Princess rolled her eyes; this was the fifth time that someone in the GOT club had brought up the idea of a band. They wanted to name it something called Dragon Slayers; the Princess cringed at the name. Still, she figured if she wanted everyone to continue to show her admiration and respect, she should exercise more patience and understanding. So, as they began to develop what instruments they would use (a harp, a harmonica, and a violin), the Princess graciously offered to seek out help in the magical forest to create a portrait so that they could post the news all over the town and throughout the castle. Once it was all agreed, the Princess had a lot of fun seeking inspiration to create a flyer for the amateur band.

Oh wow, this assignment. SO MUCH FUN! I love random things like this because I feel like you get the chance to experiment a lot more with what is given to you. And before I start telling everyone the process I went through and showing y’all the finished product, I first have to give props to Pixlr.com! Pixlr express is probably my favorite sub-editor on the site. I LOVE this photo-editing website so much! It’s been super helpful in all these assignments and is super easy to navigate and use!

Now, onto this way fun Album Cover Assignment! The first thing we had to do for this assignment was click on a link that would give us a random Wikipedia page; the name of that article was going to be our band name. I got the honor (or not) of being titled Louis LaRasso for my band name. In case you all don’t know, good ol’ Louis, also known as Fat Lou, was an infamous mobster from New Jersey. After reading that, I wanted to make sure that no matter what my quote or picture was, I was going to try and darken it up, make it very grudge and gangster like, if I could.

So next, I clicked the link that would give me random quotes. The last quote on the page, and specifically the last four words of that quote was to be the title of my first Louis LaRasso album! My quote was from Alfred North Whitehead, and the quote was “We think in generalities, but we live in detail.” And thus! ‘We Live in Detail’ became the name of my first album! So exciting!

Lastly, was the picture, probably one of the most important parts of the album, considering it would be the cover and what everyone would see if this really was going to be a real band album. I clicked the link that would randomly take me to a Flickr page with pictures and had to pick the third picture, which turned out to be a pretty sweet picture! Photo credits to slycat54, of course for supplying a wonderful picture.

From there, it was easy as pie! I used Pixlr again and used this cool effect where I made the picture into four different tones. I also changed the width and height so that it was a perfect square. Next, I searched for a border that embodied the mood I wanted, and a text to match it. With a little adjusting, changing colors and layering different color effects, I finally came out with something that I really wish WAS legit.

We Live In Detail Album

BAM! Pretty dark and neat, huh? =] I’m super proud of this princess powered artwork. Yay!
