A New Perspective

Once when the Fandom Princess was in her first year away at Mercury, she became interested in the Theatrical Club. She attended a meeting, where she sat with a vast amount of other students who were interested in drama. And as she listened to the professor, a large, talking, sky-blue phoenix, speak about acting in front of an audience; the Princess knew that this indeed was one of the activities she wanted to pursue. Pretending to be someone entirely different in front of an audience, and soaking in a lot of attention, was exactly what the Princess loved. To be admired; she was a Princess, of course:

So, I’ll be honest. When I saw in the write up for this week that we were going to be required to make over a website, I instantly went into freak-out mode. I thought oh gosh, this is going to take up my entire week and I’m going to stress out even more about this class than I already do now and I’m not going to be able to do the assignment and a whole bunch of other thoughts. However, once I conquered my fears and actually sat down to do the Storytelling Within the Web assignment, I found that it was actually kind of easy and not really as hard as I thought it would be.

The first thing I did was check out the website Hackasaurus to see what I would be working with for the assignment. It seemed harmless enough, and really easy to navigate around. With the directions on the Week 9 page, I was able to get the X-Ray Goggles on my bookmark toolbar. It’s really a genius and nifty tool! Really cool and I’m sure I’ll be messing around with it just to play in the coming weeks. Really cool.

After putting the X-Ray Goggles in my bookmark toolbar, I started thinking about what exactly website I would want to change. I went with the idea to do an Amazon product. Seemed easy enough and was definitely a good choice on my part. I decided to do something really expensive, and then got the idea to tell a story of the ring by making it ridiculously expensive and being the worst online sales rep for the jewelry. What jewelry brand is already super expensive? Tiffany & Co of course! So, I amazoned (is that a word?) for Tiffany diamonds and settled on this lovely webpage to alter:

Amazon Page Pre-Edit

Alright. Now, after adding my finishing touches to it, I came up with a page that looks similar, however, make sure to read/notice all the changes to the majority of the text that I made. I thought I was quite clever (also, click the pictures for big version of websites)…

Amazon Page Post Edit

Funny, huh? Well, this assignment really was a bunch of fun and I’m glad that we got to create a different page and actually see what it was like to kind of sort of hack a webpage. Really neat activity!
