Signing up for a blog at wordpress.com, blogger.com or tumblr.com is certainly the easiest way to get through DS106 Bootcamp but it’s not as satisfying as setting up your own domain and installing the software yourself. With the new free hosting service from University of Mary Washington (UMW), the DIY option is actually almost as simple. You have to pay 12 USD the domain name registration (you’d have to pay that anyway) but thereafter, the hosting, DNS settings, file space, database, bandwidth and access to a web-based administration panel is all set up for you.
All you need to do is visit reclaimhosting.com, press the big blue “Sign Up” button and follow the instructions. In almost no time* you’ll have a blog like mine all ready for the customization tasks to come.
Once your blog is live, don’t forget to register it at the mother ship.
Get in touch if you need help with the technical details!
