So the clips I chose to watch and write about are from the movie Training Day. From the IMDb page, as well as other pages(I have the sources on the same paper with notes that I lost…FRUSTRATION) I found out that Denzel Washington and Ethan Hawke actually talked and followed around undercover police, gang members, AND DRUG DEALERS! Really? They are allowed to deal drugs and actors can go to them so they can play the part better, but we can’t take them off of the streets? Interesting and silly at the same time. Another thing I learned was that the movie was filmed in some gang-run neighborhoods. One of the gangs head honcho allowed for the movie to be filmed in his neighborhood in exchange that his gang members and himself were allowed to be in parts of the movie and on set. Pretty cool way to get yourself into a movie! Lastly, if you have ever seen this movie, you know that they swear like no other. Denzel says the line “My nigga” over and over, and the trivia page even has the count of how many times the word “fuck” was used. 211 times to be exact. Run-time of the movie is 122 minutes. 211/122, that is approximately 1.73 “fuck”s per minute! No wonder I have a potty-mouth nowadays, I used to love this movie!
Also according to IMDb genre page, this movie genre would be considered Crime/Thriller. I would add another genre called “Excessive Profanity”.
Next, we were asked to combine the first clip and another clip from the same movie. Now, here are where my issues started coming in. First of all, the aspect ratio between the two videos are different. I unfortunately was not able to make them match, even after continuous resizing and exporting and trying to reload them. The second issue I had was clip order. We were told to put the clips in reverse order to allow them to work properly. Well, I clicked them in reverse order, 2nd clip shows first. I clicked them in regular order, 2nd clip shows first. SUPER LAMES. But, by watching the video:
You can still see the points I wanted to explain about the video. In about the first 30 seconds, I like how the camera focuses between Denzel and the woman in the other car. Giving a sense of suspense because I think “Why are they focusing on this woman? Is she significant? Is something going to happen? There must be a reason for going back and forth!”. After the first clip, the second clip shows the camera angle of dominance and submission. I like how when we look at Denzel from Ethan’s side, we are looking down. When we look from Denzel towards Ethan, we are looking up. It gives the viewer the impression that Ethan is in control of the situation and Denzel is powerless against him.
