Out For A Stroll

One bright sunny day, the Fandom Princess decided that she would go on a stroll in town. She had finished with her lessons for the day and saw that Ghost wanted to stretch his legs. So, after making sure her prized ruby gem was safely on the silver chain, she placed it around her neck to wear proudly. Next, she began packing a rucksack with water, coins, a snack, and a Harry Potter book, then she and Ghost set off down the path that led to the town.

They made it there within great time (only fifteen minutes walk) and the town was alive with music and noise, as it was a little past midday. Ghost barked happily at the sight of young children outside playing with their dolls and playing games.

Everyone made some sort of gesture to the Princess, a nod of the head or a quick wave, and only the occasional person did a full on bow, but that was how the Princess preferred it. She wanted to blend in when she was among her loyal subjects and to be their friend.

Ghost and the Princess continued on to the bakery. The smell of fresh baked cakes and pies wafted in the air as they neared the small store. Sitting on a chair outside was a little boy, and the Princess instantly recognized him as Bryson, one of the smartest, cleverest kids that the Princess knew. He once came to a Star Wars fan meeting and taught them all the different parts of a lightsaber. The Princess admired him greatly.

“Why hello, Bryson,” she said as she approached the child.

Bryson’s face lit up as Ghost bounded up to him, licking him on his chin. “Hello, Princess.”

The Princess sat down crossed legged on the ground next to Bryson. “Why are you sitting out here, not playing or anything?”

“The bakery smell was making me kind of sick, so mom said to come sit outside and rest. It’s so awfully boring though,” Bryson pouted.

Ghost came to rest in between the Princess and Bryson. The Princess, feeling sorry for Bryson, reached over and rubbed his shoulder. “How about I go buy us a small cake to split and tell you a story? Would that make you feel better?”

The grin on Bryson’s face widened and he nodded frantically. Within minutes, the Princess had bought them a small lemon cake with sweet strawberry icing on top to split, and she began telling the story of one of her recent adventures to the intrigued boy:

Boy oh boy, this week was quite interesting. Let me not beat around the bush too much, though. There will be plenty of Tiffany-opinions throughout my many blog posts from this week. Haha.

The main things that I agreed and disagreed with on audio storytelling can be found here. I did like the whole idea of storytelling, obviously, but listening to the videos definitely put the audio part of it all for me in a little more perspective. To be honest, however, it doesn’t seem really different from actually reading a work to speaking it, but that just could be the critical English major in me. It was all great fun to learn about, anyway!

The radio story from This American Life and my take on it can be found here. Super cool, once again, how I’m learning about this sort of thing in my non-fiction class. My professor has mentioned this site a few times in terms of radio essays.

You can find my audio assignments here. I found them somewhat, for lack of a better word, AMAZINGLY FUN! They took a bit of work though, so I’m really glad that I finished them before the weekend, because I probably would have stressed about it all weekend, and that’s never good for a princess!

Our lovely Daily Creates are also below. I still think they are a good idea, although sometimes I find myself forgetting to do them. For the most part, they are super fun; I think it just kind of forces me to be creative when I work better letting that inspiration come to me. But to each his own!

  • My first Acrostic poem! Boom! So, I’m the world’s worst English major because I had to be reminded what an Acrostic poem was, but once I figured it out, coming up with the poem was easy peasy!
  • Here is me almost dying while humming a little Disney jam! ;] Neat assignment, and I was happy we finally were getting to use Soundcloud a little more.

  • And here’s my Twitter hiaku! It’s about my baby, my shih-tzu Hershey Kisses! :D

As with last week, I look at the feedback that I get back from comments sort of like how I view work shopping my creative writing stuff in class. It’s effective and I appreciate it because it lets me know what I’m not doing well or what I am doing well.

Aside from the audio assignments, my favorite part of this week, the rest of week four personally wasn’t my cup of tea. Now, before we bring out the torches and pitch forks, I’ll add some explanation. I’m much more a written works sort of person. I’m not a big fan of radio storytelling or hearing stories that are too long or that you have to actually think about the point of it, if that makes any sense. For example, bedtime stories or stories you tell your friends just merely speaking are different from audio stories, and I much prefer the former. I’d much rather read words and be able to visualize the images that way. I think I personally get the effect better when I do that, and feel like its more effective. That being said, I do think it’s important to get a firm knowledge of audio storytelling and to see both its pros and cons, but I definitely think the written work is a little more rewarding and interesting for me! But I learned a lot this week, got my butt kicked in audio, but it was all in the name of blogging, so right on!

Well, peace out, girl scouts! Princess out!
