Book Talk :)

Part of being an English Ed major, or just being me in general, requires a lot of reading!  I am always reading something.  So, I will share here about my reads and give my two cents regarding the book to hopefully inspire people to read.  Feel free to comment or add!!

Over winter break I work in an office where I have very, very little to do.  So, I get to read for 8 hours.  What could be better?  Over the two-ish weeks that I worked I read quite a few books, so here you go.

– “Are you there Vodka, It’s me, Chelsea” by Chelsea Handler:  This was a recommendation from a friend and I am glad I listened.  I found her humor SO funny.  I was by myself in my office literally cracking up.  I love the way she makes fun of her family and friends, very daring because I could never do such a thing!  This memoir basically is her telling us events that drives her towards vodka- that is what I got out of it.  However, it is a very funny, easy, and quick read.

– “My Horizontal Life” by Chelsea Handler: Yup, I loved her first book so much that I had to read another.  I thought this was funny, but I did not like it as much as I liked the other.  I found the other book SO much funnier.  The stuff she gets herself into is unbelievable and outrageous and honestly I would love to switch places with her for a day.

– “Come Back” by Claire and Mia Fontaine:  This book was personally hard for me to read.  However, it was beautifully told and expertly thought out and written.  I loved how you were able to get into both the mother and the daughter’s mind sets.  It is an amazing memoir written by a mother and daughter about Mia (the daughter) going through a “rough time” (to say it nicely) with drugs, alcohol, etc. and her mother doing anything she can to get her old daughter back.

– “Best of Me” by Nicholas Sparks: When I was in High School I LOVED Nicholas Sparks.  I think I have read all of his books, actually.  Anyways, after reading so many of his books I kind of feel like he is very predictable and many of his characters are very similar.  Not knocking him or anything because he is obviously a well-known, successful author.  This novel was a pretty easy read and as all of his books do to me, it will play with your heart strings.  Sad and a little unexpected ending, but meaningful.  I just wish Nicholas Sparks’ male characters would jump out of his books and come to life, don’t you?

– “Forever” by Maggie Stiefvater: This is the third and last book of her series.  My favorite thing about all three of these books is the print.  Weird, I know, but each book has a different color ink.  First one is dark blue (I think), the second is green, and I think this book was purple? I am not too sure because I read this in my kindle.  But, it is just a cool element to add to a novel.  Anyways, I always really liked this series but I was a little disappointed with this last book.  I still feel like there are open ends and I just felt like this was not really finished.  What do you guys think?  Anyone read this?  If so, share your opinions with me because I may have just missed something.

Any who- I will keep you all updated with my reading and I hope to hear from people!
