As soon as I saw today’s assignment for the Daily Create I got really excited…I knew exactly what I wanted to do! The assignment was to “photograph something commonly considered as ugly and make it heart-breakingly beautiful.” I’m not sure I made it heart-breakingly beautiful, but I think I improved upon it…
It is a picture of the manure pit behind the barn where I board my horse while I am here at school. Manure pits (the place where all the manure and dirty shavings are dumped after cleaning a horse’s stall) are definitely considered something of an eyesore, and pretty smelly too. The brown shapes are, of course, nice little bits of horse poop!
The sun was just right when I went out to the barn this afternoon, and I had a lot of fun experimenting with angles and the lighting. This picture was the one that made the cut! I just used some simple photo editing effects in iPhoto to change the look of the picture, like changing the level of contrast and exposure. I also tried taking some pictures of the reflection of trees in the mud puddles around the barn, but those didn’t turn out as well.
