I was browsing through some pictures and I came across this quote: “Don’t gain the world and lose your soul.” Wow. That’s powerful. It made me stop and think. I think that is something to keep in the back of your mind. Every single day we are smothered with societal images, ideals, and ways of living. We have to remember what made us us. Think back to kindergarden. What did you absolutely love? What got you excited? Were you scared to get up in front of all your fellow peers and sing? Dance? Put on a show? When your parents let you dress yourself- what did you wear? I remember when I dressed myself it looked like I dressed myself in the dark. But, it was cute! It showed character.
Granted we change because we get older. But we are the same person. Just different concerns such as: what will my friends think? What will strangers think? Why does that matter! If friends are your friends they wouldn’t care. And who cares what some person who you will never see again think.
It’s just sort of sad to think that the spirited, care-free, enthusiastic, outgoing little girl that I once was is gone. Although I do not necessarily think I “lost my soul”, I do know that I have changed to a more self conscious, timid person because of what people may think. I am sure people can relate. Just remember that along the way of life, remain true to yourself.
