Final Project – Commonwealth Duals

Our meet this past weekend was the Commonwealth Duals at Christopher Newport University. The concept of the meet was to gather some of the top DIII schools in Virginia and have them compete to see which school is “king” of the Commonwealth. The format of the meet was very unusual, with scoring done between every school. We treated the meet just like any other, and didn’t really stack any events to try and win. As a result, we finished beating Virginia Wesleyan and losing to Lynchburg, CNU, and Washington and Lee.

Distance events went well, with us taking first through third in both the 3000m steeple and 5000m races. Going into the 5000 Stephen Harrison and I were hoping it would be a fast, competitive race, but it ended up being just me and him running together out front. We were still able to both run some PR’s (personal records) so all in all it went pretty well.

Sprints went fairly well too, with several guys lowering their season’s best times. We had a couple guys go 52.XX in the 400m, which is right outside of current scoring times for the conference and Allan Meyer went sub-23 in the 200m dash, which puts him at 7th fastest in the conference so far.

Next weekend only a few members of the team are competing at Goucher College and the rest of the team has off. Our 10,000m runners will be running there to get their qualifying times for conferences.
