Pollock/Fat Cat REMIX

So for my first attempt at the DS106 Remixes, I received this from the Remix Generator: Fat Cats Make Better Art [Remixed]: Pollock Style (?????)

You had to take a submission from the assignment Fat Cats Make Art Better and “introduce the visual elements of a Jackson Pollock painting.”

I had previously done the Fat Cats assignment during our week of Visual Assignments, and I had chosen the painting The Scream by Edvard Munch and placed a fat cat sitting atop the subject’s head. I decided to use my own creation from that assignment to make this remix.

I made it in Gimp, and I didn’t have very much trouble. I knew I wanted to just take the original assignment and cover it in splatters. Easy enough.

Then I got into Gimp and realized I’d have to hand-draw every splatter because there isn’t a tool to make that kind of mark (unless I just don’t know about it, which is entirely possible). I googled some pictures of paint splatters because I know they’re not all the same and there are extra drips and drops that happen when splatter you something. It wasn’t that hard, it was just kind of time-consuming. I left the cat’s face relatively free of splatters and I tried to leave the person in The Scream kind of splatter-less but that part didn’t work out so well. At least the cat’s face is visible.

I’m pleased with the final result.
