In the 21st century, participation on the web is so important. Users are able to contribute to global discussions about anything that interests them, whether it is personal or professional. This being said, it is critically important to ensure that students learn to navigate the web in a responsible and respectful manner. Too often, students misuse their resources because they are unaware of what is appropriate. Looking at the Nine Elements of Digital Citizenship shown here, we can teach students how to use the internet safely and effectively.
Digital Citizenship is more than just a teaching tool; it is a way to prepare students/technology users for a society full of technology! It encompasses digital literacy, ethics, etiquette, online safety, norms, rights, culture and more. These technologies aren’t going away and with the emphasis on digital media as our main source of information, it has become increasingly important to understand digital citizenship and its importance!
