Final Thoughts

What do I think about ds106? It’s a pretty cool idea for a class. I think that in today’s world it makes sense to know how to have and manage a digital identity. Although I wish there had been more emphasis on protecting and cultivating the kind of identity that you want instead of just creating incessantly. I also wish I had been able to get into it as an underclassman. I think I would have been a lot more gung-ho about it and been able to put more into the class than I did this semester. I don’t think the class schedule did it any favors. This kind of work needs to be done regularly in little bits, and the schedule kind of encouraged large chunks of work to be done at the last minute. Maybe 50 minute MWF classes would be a better format. I liked this class a lot more at the beginning of the semester when we were writing responses to things and doing photography work. The radio shows were pretty fun too. But after that, things sort of fell off. And I feel like it wasn’t just with me. Video stuff takes at least twice the time as audio and there was just as much if not more assigned. This was pretty overwhelming at that point in the semester. This is another reason why I wish I had been able to take this class at an earlier point in my college career when there wasn’t as much going on in my other classes as well. I see ds106 as a class that should be filled with mostly freshman and sophomores as opposed to mostly juniors. Overall, it was an interesting class and i nice break from the monotony test based classes. I would suggest it to any of my friends and do on a regular basis.
