The Big Hip Hop Remixed Mood Swap!

Okay, so for my second assignment this week (4 stars, equaling 9 all together), I used the remix generator and got The Big Hip Hop [Remixed]: Mood Swap.  The remix directions were: Flip the mood of the assignment. If it’s light, make it dark. If it’s sad, make it happy. If it’s exhilarating, make it not so exhilarating.  Well the directions for the original assignment were: Take any photo from The Big Picture http://www.boston.com/bigpicture/ and overlay it with lyrics from a Top 100 song. Similar to The Big Caption project.

The whole idea behind the remix card is to take someone else’s work and apply the card to it.  For my assignment, I choose to use the picture included below, from Candice’s blog: http://blog.mysight.me/the-big-hip-hop/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=the-big-hip-hop

Her assignment gave the feel of two people happily in love, which I think her lyrics worked really well with the image. She did a great job!

My job was to remix the assignment and give it a different mood.  I knew exactly how to do it! Because whats more different from happily in love than breaking up.  Below is my remixed image:

Now I had to download GIMP 2, because my trial in Photoshop expired, BUMMER!  I had no idea how to use GIMP 2 and it was frustrating because I was becoming pretty good at using Photoshop, but anyways, I prevailed.  So I went to Candice’s blog and saved her picture to my computer then I opened it up in GIMP 2 but then I realized I had no idea how to get her words off.  So I went to The Big Picture website (http://www.boston.com/bigpicture/) and found the image she used of the two people ice skating.  I saved this image to my computer and then opened in the GIMP 2.  Then I Googled songs about breakups and found the song entitled “Say Goodbye” by Chris Brown, I decided to use these lyrics 1) because breaking up is the opposite of being in love and 2) because these lyrics give the feeling that they don’t want to break up but need to and in the image of the ice skaters, to me anyways, it looks like they are looking down and could be attempting to pull away from each other.  I copied and pasted the lyrics into a text box in GIMP and then I changed the color to red.  I choose red because in Candice’s picture her lyrics were white (pure and happy) and I figured red would be the opposite, giving off the effect of sad and hurt! Then I saved the image I created to my computer and inserted it in my blog.  I think my remixed mood swap came out pretty well.
