Design Safari

Here are my photos for my Design Safari.  I decided to include two photos for four different elements.

For my different elements, I went with Color, Rhythm, Balance, and Typography.

Color – Since it’s October, I decided that orange would be the best color to use for this example.  I think that it’s obvious when you look at the two pictures of the window and the pumpkin that orange and the element color are the ones best used here.  I found that it was very fun to find different pictures that had an orange element in them and these pictures were the best ones out of the others that I took.

Rhythm – I had a little bit of a difficulty with this one, but after I found the perfect pictures, I believe that I represented Rhythm the most effectively.  I went with the picture of the tiles on the floor and the four Mug Root Beer cans kind of staggered back.  Since these elements are repetitious, I found that they were the best ones to use out of the others that I took.  I had some pumpkins lined up, but the color element was a bit more prominent than the element of rhythm so I decided to use the more neutral colors in my pictures here.

Balance – For my balance photos of the pumpkin and the car, I went with the idea that there is symmetry in my photos.  The car is balanced on the page with the color blue being the most prominent but rather than the color taking over the entire photo, I thought that the close up of the front of the car allowed for the balance of the image to overpower the color.  For my second picture, I took an aerial shot of the pumpkin and did my best to make sure that it was as centered on the photo as possible.  Without this symmetry, there would be no balance.  I believe that I achieved these elements effectively and I hope that you agree as well.

The only one of the elements that I think could be a bit better would be the rhythm one.  Although repetition is very important, it’s hard to get something repetitious without it looking too staged.  I tried to make sure that all of my pictures looked a bit more authentic rather than me setting something up and staging it to look a specific way.  All of my photos that I took were all unique in their own individual way because of the environment that I found them in.  Rhythm, however, was a bit more difficult.  I would have to say that the staged effect is the only problem that I would say I had with rhythm.
