I began my fourth semester of the ILT Master's program at UC Denver about two weeks ago. This semester means I have finally begun the second half of this program and am on my way to crossing the finish line. I thought it would be a good idea to do a little reflection on what I've accomplished so far and how I feel about the program and being a grad student. As a Humanities major I did quite a bit of writing; essays, research papers, and I even wrote a final thesis for my degree. I actually enjoyed all of that writing! This course was not what I anticipated however, it was much more difficult. I assumed that I would thrive in this environment but it was more challenging for me to think critically than I assumed it would be. Maybe it was just

Chapter eight of New Literacies was a bit of a letdown for me. To be honest, it was a tough chapter to read. For this chapter the authors gave some examples of New Literacies being used in the classroom. One thing that has driven me crazy with this book is its constant use of examples. Examples can be great for illustrating your ideas and bringing those ideas into the real world however, by this point in the book I have found the authors have really overdone the use of examples. I know I talked at great length about Serial previously and I’d like to finish by discussing Serial season two. Much like season one I binge listened to Serial season two in a weekend however, it wasn’t complete when I was listening so I had to wait for the last few episodes. Listening for my Great Grandfather - a Digital Story by Kyle Bajakian I found this story on the Story Center's YouTube channel. The title stood out to me, I have found through looking for digital stories to critique for my course in Learning with Digital Stories, that stories that have to do with family, especially loved ones who are gone, particularly stand out to me.
