    Week 8 Focal Theme Response

    by
As I look for articles or scholarship to write about for my focal theme it seems that almost everything I come across speaks of the joyous wonderment of motherhood. Of the trials, the tribulations, heartbreak, and ultimate reward that comes with motherhood. On the opposite end I find articles about women who chose not to be mothers and just fine with that. They justify over and over again how great their lives were or how much wine they drink, or much fun they have. Both of these types of

    Week 8 Design Assignment

    by
For this week's assignment from DS106's assignment bank I chose, "Dog It Out." If it's not obvious yet I love my dogs so naturally I was drawn to an assignment that involved using a picture of your dog. In this assignment you were to take a picture of your dog and upload it into some software that will allow editing. This is an older picture of my Yorkie, Haley, but one of my favorite pictures of her. I did a birthday theme because of all of my pets she is only one who has an official birthday

Week 8 Story Critique: Serial (continued)

    by
*Warning* There are spoilers in this post about the podcast: Serial (It's been out for quite awhile but since it's new to me I thought I would warn of the spoilers!)   This week I would like to complete another critique of the podcast, Serial. I finished the entire podcast in one weekend! I know when you watch the entire series of Breaking Bad on Netflix you binged watched it but I wonder what we can call it when you binge a podcast?!? It’s strange because it’s not exactly the same thing. I put

ILT 5340 – Week 7 Personal Reflective Summary

    by
Learning with Digital Stories, week 7! My how the time flies.  I was in Phoenix, AZ this week at ICON, a conference all about digital sales and marketing automation software. I knew nothing about Infusionsoft, Lead Pages, Mobit, Branding or Marketing best practices when I got there.  However, the first thing I started to analyze was how the presenters were telling their stories. They were telling stories to sell and market products and services.  Presenters told stories to inspire, motivate,

Picture 1 Picture 2     My reflective thoughts are on the page in my Notebook file that was spinning the candy cane whirl. (Please see Picture 1 above) I’ve taken the path of reflecting along the way from the prior reflection. Many times (or at least in my case) I will want to remember […]

    Personal Reflection Week 7

    by
*Gratuitious picture of my dog*   These past two weeks have been busy, very busy. Both at work and in school. Things really kicked into gear this week, maybe nothing changed, maybe it was just my perception of them! In the New Literacies book I read about remixing and my definition of that word changed a bit. Before that chapter I really only thought of music when it came to remixing but after I read this chapter it became clear to me that remixing can apply to different art and media genres and

The Dark World of a Tech-Noir – ILT 5340 Digital Story Critique Week 7

    by
*I have been reading and critiquing digital comics, for my Master level studies, in a continuing series to develop my exposure to and understanding of this New Literacy Last week I reviewed Mark Waid’s talk at the 2013 O’Reilly Media’s Tools of Change for Publishing Conference, in his talk Waid discuses and presents some examples of the digital comics that he and his […]

    Reflection of Week 7 #ILT5340

    by
This week I have really reflected upon the copyright issues surrounding digital media and digital storytelling, as well as the elements that make a good digital story for a recipe.  I feel that there is no cut and dry resolution to copyright issues in media.  It is pretty clear in the news that this will […]

    Story Critique: Hmm, waffles! #ILT5340

    by
http://player.pbs.org/viralplayer/2365501336 I have been cooking a lot of wild yeast dough lately, so I thought it would be a great idea to watch this how-to video and see how yeast risen waffles work.  I feel like experimenting with this recipe and trying to make a wild yeast waffle recipe.  For my critique, I’ll be utilizing […]

    New Literacies, Chapter 4 #ILT5340

    by
I was a bit confused by this chapter in New Literacies and what the stance of the authors is on copyrights.  Earlier on in the book (page 66), they discuss the views of Lawrence Lessig on copyright laws and how he believes that copyright laws should be more fluid and allow the creator to decide […]

@ds106dc  #tdc1517 So I am home today after conferences all week, and I tell Misha….3 things for life….GO; she told me the 3 things and left for her 2D animation class at RMCAD, and then I created the book cover. It’s pretty fun, I’d buy it! Orange for RMCAD, life is tragic and comedic (sometimes mixed), […]

People buy your story first then your product – Week 7 Critique

    by
I sit here at ICON16, an entrepreneur’s smorgasbord.  Powerful speakers like Lisa Nichols, David Ramsey, and Digital Marketer Ryan Deiss inspiring, igniting, and communicating a common theme throughout their diverse messages.  If you connect to the person whatever you are trying to achieve, the power lives in the relationship.  People buy your story before they buy your product.   The importance of relationship building is not a new topic; it’s just one we seldom have formal training on in
