Well, technically its not my pet but this is a selfie of myself, my brother and a turkey we found in our yard. He obviously wasn’t very interested in taking this picture with us. 2 Stars.
In this photo I cropped my pet parrot into the UMW campus, right here he is sitting on top of George Washington Hall. I also had trouble cropping my pet into this picture on campus. I couldn’t fully integrate my bird into the sky. 4 Stars.
In this picture, I cropped in pictures of several of my friends and myself as the “Real Brady Bunch.” Those other guys are fakes. This was a pretty tough assignment, I had difficulty trying to adjust the background to fit correctly with the pictures that I imported.
This picture is of a couple that met on the Internet in 2016. They are avid users of social media and one day the man in the picture decided to direct message the girl on Twitter. At first the woman was skeptical of the man’s methods of approaching her, but she promptly responded after seeing […]

Vonnegut refers to a goodness and ill fortune scale that can be applied to stories. Many times stories can be seen to have similar themes, ending with the same goodness ranking (or at least some goodness ranking). This generally pleases the reader, listener, viewer, etc. I noticed in the ICE man story the goodness to […]
I loved re-watching this movie, its a pretty interesting tale of a man who decided to move out West and was confronted by some stage coach robbers. He ended up beaten up and homeless, so he went to live in a small western town where he changed the whole culture and became the big man […]
Having read “The Ice Man,” “The Bride Comes to Yellow Sky,” and other Western stories, both for class and beforehand, some common elements, style, settings, and characters, stand out. As stated in a previous blog, the western genre seems to be the literary embodiment of the prevalent frontier mentality that still exists in the shadows […]
I attempted to write a short story with each consecutive word’s first letter beginning with the next letter of the alphabet. I put a little western twist on it. http://assignments.ds106.us/assignments/a-story-in-alphabet/ A bronze cowboy drove eerily fast, gravitating heavily into jungled knots; laughing maniacally, never once peering quiveringly, riding south toward Utah, veering with xenolith yellow […]
I completed the monologue of a household tool. I figured it was pretty interesting. I never thought much about how a tool would feel. http://assignments.ds106.us/assignments/monologue-of-a-household-tool/ It’s winter again, and half of me is freezing. The only time I can escape from the cold is during the brief moments I go inside the house. These times […]

Tropes are spread throughout westerns. The characters most commonly seen are the cowboys, drunks, sheriffs (the law), or women behind the men. Just depends on the story. The Ice Man and the Bride Comes to Yellow Sky both deal with a person in a similar station in life, however these persons deal with the situation […]
This week I learned more about the Western theme. I enjoyed reading the required readings and creating assignments. I especially focused on language this week while doing the readings and responded to it here: Language in the West I even included “Western” in a couple of my daily creates! You can find my daily creates […]

Reading two of the great western legends makes the Western culture really start to sink in. Credit: Ice Man Credit: The Bride Comes to the Yellow Sky Noticing Some Things: These Westerns sure are starting to blend together. Even though they all have different story lines, the settings and people still seem to be similar in character. […]
I really enjoyed week three because it was more about doing work, then setting up my blog and just getting frustrated trying to figure out how to work everything. The biggest problem that I came across this week was trying to set up the categories. Before this week, not knowing what I was doing, I … Continue reading Week Three: 1/29/16
So this week was pretty fun, I thought! I enjoyed watching and listening to more westerns. As mentioned in my post, So You Think You Understand Westerns I have definitely learned a lot about the western genre already. I really enjoyed reading Crane’s short story The Bride Comes to Yellow Sky; I thought it was very well … Continue reading "The Making of a Western Genre Expert"
Agnus was born and raised in Tombstone, Arizona. Her mother didn’t work much growing up, she just kind of helped around town and her father was the most popular cowboy in town. He was like the head honcho of Tombstone. She grew up playing in the mud and being tackled by her two older brothers. … Continue reading Little Agnus
I decided to apply Vonnegut’s Shape of Stories to The Bride Comes to Yellow Sky by Stephen Crane. The beginning of the story starts off a little above the ‘B’ axis, because clearly the couple is newly married and seems to have just come in to some money (based on the brides excitement and concern over the … Continue reading "Shape of The Bride Comes to Yellow Sky"
Freshman move in day is all a blur, its crazy to think it was just 3 years ago! I remember that it was pouring (Fun fact: it has rained every year on my move in day), and my box fan was outside the car on the trailer hitch and it got ruined on the trip … Continue reading Home away from home
This assignment was hard. 10 seconds to give all your thanks? There’s not enough time in a day to possibly do that. I had my friends time me and I wrote down the first couple things that came to my mind in this short time. They ended up being cliché answers, but I thought to … Continue reading Thankyou
