The “future” has been with us for a long time, and I’m merely at the beginning; overwhelming, no? To me, the concept of Web 2.0 represents an exponentially-increasingly user-friendly interactive aspect of communicative media. A note from Gardner Campbell’s discussion with DS106 that struck a chord with me were his explanations for the slow progress of operational change. To paraphrase, he suggests that many people who hold the technical digital knowledge do not want it to become ubiquitously well-known because it would take away their bread-and-butter. Consider, for a moment, how quickly development could occur if these floodgates were open. On the other hand, there is an aspect of willpower and effort on the part of the masses. Finally, if technical proficiency in the current level of technology became widespread, what implications would this have for our security?
