For the return to the silent era video assignment, we had to find a movie an turn it into a silent movie. I chose to create a silent movie of The Lincoln Lawyer. The Lincoln Lawyer is a movie about a defense attorney who takes on a case of a wealthy client who plans on beating the court system. The Lincoln Lawyer represents the extend to which people go these days in order to become rich, and most of all the corruption of the court systems.
I chose The Lincoln Lawyer because I am a aspiring attorney. I wouldn’t say this movie represents a real life situation, however it does represent what happens when people become too greedy, or when lawyers make unethical decisions. I have always been very into law enforcement and the course system, and this movie represents a little bit of both.
Even though I wanted to do a movie that dealt with the court system and law enfacements, I knew I had to find a movie that was somewhat current day, but also had a old feel to it. I thought this movie was a perfect choice because it does have a old feel to it due to their use of a very old lincoln town car through the movie, which also represents The Lincoln Lawyer.
In order to do this assignment I did multiple things. First I searched youtube for a lincoln lawyer trailer which I could transform into a silent era clip. This is the trailer that I decided to use. I then simply placed the clip into I movie. Since iMovie doesn’t have a black and white option, I simply just used the fade option to fade the movie to black and white. I added some special effect tones that iMovie has. The tone i used was a old grandfather clock to represent the end of the clip. In order to find music that had the silent movie feel, I used incompetech which has numerous types of silent movie music and allows for a fast download. I then simply just shared it to youtube.
I really enjoyed doing this project. The project allowed us current day kids to experience what old movies were like. However most of all it showed us prove of how much technology has evolved throughout the years.
