Let’s Work Together!

I have never really heard of a creative commons, So as I started researching I decided to go straight to the source, creativecommons.org. I figured that was the best source to get the most legitimate information. It told me the best way to introduce myself to this subject was to watch this video:

While watching this I thought back to a previous post I wrote on creativity. I watched a video explaining how good ideas come together. It basically stated that two ideas from different people could make a good idea. This creative commons idea allows this to happen! Yes, everybody has their own work and has a right to it, but sharing other’s works creates unlimited possibilities.

In the video it explained a little bit about copy right. It said that when you create anything you automatically own an all rights reserved copyright. It protects your creativity against uses you don’t consent to. I agree that this sometimes doesn’t give enough freedom. Sometimes you want people to use your idea and build up on something amazing. I am a big believer in two minds are greater than one! This creative commons idea allows people to choose which rights they want to reserve and which rights they can waive for the greater of the good. On most situations, I am pro-choice. I believe that every person does have the right to choose what is best for them. And in the situation it proves to be the same. Options are always good!

I do think the copyright law is great though! If I create something I definitely want to be given credit for it. But this seems a bit stuffy for others. It seems too strict and limiting for me, unless I personally create something world changing I want people to know it was me and only me! (but that’s a different story). I think the creative commons loosens this idea up a bit. Allows people to come together and use other’s ideas and miz them with their own, and possibly come up with something world changing.

So, for now (until I come up with something that changes the world), I believe I would use a creative commons. Maybe somebody else can put their idea with mine and come up with something amazing. I want to use this because I do want limitations on my work, but not so many that my thoughts cannot be built upon and grow.

I am going to post the wikipedia links to Creative Commons and Copyright because they have some interesting background information that yall might enjoy!
