Week One Summary. Onward!

The goal of this post is to summarize Week 1 (which for me has actually consisted of just today).  I just joined the class today, and as such, am an in a bit of a time crunch to get the week 1 deliverables together.

A little about me:

I am a Non-traditional student at UMW.  The non-traditional part being that I am 34 years old, I am married, and we have a son in fifth grade.  I earned an Associates degree in Business Administration from Germanna, after which, I transferred to UMW.  I am now a senior and a Computer Science major, but I won’t graduate until Spring 2017.  I am trying to finish my degree and get my dream job so that my husband can stay home and eat bon bons all day for a while :)

I have been doing freelance web development work for a number of years, and because of this, I have a lot of experience with WordPress.  Setting up today wasn’t too much of an issue, although I still have a lot of work to do to pretty up my blog page for this course. The hard part for me is going to be the blogging part.  I was not blessed with the gift of gab (at least not before the first two beers).  Anyways, this just looked like too much fun to pass up, so I’m ready!

The first thing that came to my mind when I thought of the western theme was Hi Ho Silver, Away! So, of course, that is the name of my blog, and my twitter account for this course. Not terribly original, but kind of fun and dorky, which I think suits me pretty well.

On to the social media…

Introductory Twitter post:

I have never used Soundcloud before, but found it pretty easy to get set up with.  I’m not sure what I would use this for in the future, however, so I am interested in learning some ways in which others use the platform.

Here is my introductory SoundCloud clip:

I am also not well-versed in video production or publicly uploaded youTube videos of myself, so here is my first embarrassing attempt at a video introduction. I’ll try to get a little more creative next time!

Video Introduction:

Also, I have mentioned my people-family, but a big part of my life also involves my animals.  I have created a Flickr album to introduce them to you all:

Well, there’s my intro, Week 1, Day 1, all of the above. Up next for me is expanding my knowledge of the western genre beyond the words, “Hi Ho Silver, Away!”
