The End of the Beginning

DS106.

There is so much to say.

First of all, I loved the class. I would recommend it to anyone.
But I would also warn them.

I would warn them that they will have to work to make this class fun.
They will have to expect it to not treat itself as a 100-level class.
DS106 doesn’t make you take tests or write essays, but that doesn’t mean it’s not a lot of work.

Still, it was a really fun class and I would totally take it again.

Here’s some of my favorite parts from the semester:

The Stranger Portrait Project
by Bionic Teaching was a very cool concept, and he pulled it off very well. I only wish he’d done more!

I think my favorite part of the whole semester was listening to everyone’s radio shows after spring break. A LOT of work went into them, but they were all the more rewarding in the end for it. That project overall was frustrating and humbling, but in the end I’m glad we did it.

Personally, I was really proud of the work I did for the visual art section of the course.
Actually, I guess that was just two pieces: THIS ONE and THIS OTHER ONE.
It was a short section, but it was fun.

Another one I’m proud of is my final project.
I worked with Patrick, and we created THIS. It is a three-part youtube story about Minecraft. We think it turned out pretty awesome.

But it wasn’t as awesome as this: AARON MADE A GAME!
It is very cool. I haven’t done much with actionscript, but I thought what he came up with was pretty impressive.

In general, the semester was several distinct brands of awesome, but now it is over.

This blog will sink down to the pitch-dark bottom of the endless sea which is called the internet.
It will be crushed down to nothing in the depths, and sooner than anyone could guess it will be forgotten forever.
But I learned in this class that the internet is a powerful place. I fully intend to create a new site someday.

For now, internet, farewell. I retire for a time as a commenter. I will be back before you even miss me.
