Web 2.0 is not something that can be bought in a box, it is something that has been created for everyone to use freely. It was the transition from packaged software to services provided by large corporations, ultimately paid for by advertising. The web is a platform that we each have the power to use in whichever way we choose. Alexander discussed ways that individuals were using their blogs to tell stories in ways that people would have never imagined possible. You, as an individual, are able to put whatever you like on the web. It is your platform. You can now choose to share you creates with others for them to use through the creative commons. This embodies what I believe the largest concept of web 2.0 to be: the collective intelligence. O’Reilly noted that Google was as successful as it is because they realized that ”the collective power of the small sites make up the bulk of the web’s content.” This is what stands out to me. The web isn’t what some large corporation wants it to be. The web, our web, is what we make it. We are the ones who decide what to share and fill it with knowledge. The power of the web belongs to us and it is our responsibility to take advantage of it.
