Wow, that was a lot of reading! Although it was a long read, it was very informative. The last link, 7 things you should know about creative commons, didn’t work for me and said it would be back up on February 6^th. It is too bad this blog post is due the 5^th so I can’t incorporate those ideas into me post. I will just have to read it on my own time. I thought I knew a lot about the internet, but boy was I wrong. I quickly realized that I have pretty much only been exposed to web 2.0. Yes, I do vaguely remember using Netscape on my home desktop computer when I was in elementary school but the web, as I know it, is web 2.0. It is interesting to see how real time updates can change the web, every single second. While I am writing this blog post, there could be a million status updates worldwide and a million tweets worldwide. This is what is so great about the web 2.0. It is what you make it! The web is just a platform that we use to share information. O’ Reilly’s article really opened my eyes as to what exactly web 2.0 is and made me see the gradual change of the web and how it turned into what it is today.  I liked how he wrote the article comparing old vs. new, for example Netscape vs. Google.  He showed how each facet of the web has been upgraded. Alexander’s article was kind of frustrating to me. I think the author used too many examples, which seemed to bog down the article. The examples were good, but I think it was overdone. I enjoyed reading about the different ways blogs are used whether to tell a story, retell a story from a different point of view, or even just share information.  I have a blog (obviously) and it made me think of what type of blog I want mine to be. I will mainly use the blog to express myself, hence the notafraid.us URL and Eminem pictures because Eminem is my favorite music artist, and post assignments for ds106. The other two sections I liked were about wikis and twitter. It all relates back to the ability for everyone to update the web all over the world. Wikipedia is amazing to me; I wish it received more credit from academia.  In conclusion, the two articles have taught me that in these modern times, the web 2.0 is what makes the world go round.
