Week 4 Recap – Updated

Daily Creates:

1) The first assignment for the week was “Make a photo of something upside down that is not usually seen that way”. I recently had my birthday and my girlfriend decided to make dinner for me and made a fancy dinner table. I decided to use this because I thought it would be a nice subject.

2) Our next one was to “Share an image of a place that you lose things in your house”. This was a no brainer for me. I have either school or work everyday, requiring me to constantly be moving. When I come home, I generally go straight to my computer desk, plopping anything I have with me on it. Unless the item I sit down is large enough to stand out among the dishes, glasses, pop-tarts and books, I consider it gone. It is the black whole of my apartment.

3) Next, we were asked to “Create a photograph the represents the happiest, or most memorible, moment in our lives”. This was also very easy to come up with me. My brother had always wanted to be in the military. I remember when we were little, he would always try to get me to play Army with him, whether that meant shooting his action figures or acting out a war situation.  I remember actually having a trip bomb building competition with him (not real explosives, mind you). Many years later, he achieved his dream. A year so ago, I remember attending my brothers graduation from bootcamp, signalling his new career as a-fledged Marine. After some time spent at his new house, he was sent over seas for  the past 6 months. After the months of worry and constant letters, he finally came back to the states and my family could not be happier.

4) “Something I aspire to be one day”. A very easy topic as well. Since I am currently taking 19 credit hours worth of classes and working partime, between work and studying, I have very little free time and little time to sleep. This being the case, all I want to be right now is sleeping.

5) I had a couple ideas for the next topic, “Take a picture of confusion”. I attempted to make a trippy looking light show with my camera however I could not figure out how. I decided my best, and simplest, course of action at this point would to just take a picture of myself looking confused. Which I did. I did mess around with the picture a little bit to make it a tad more interesting by messing with the depth of field.

6)” Take a photo that emphasis the details of a human hand”. For this one, I took a series of pictures, all of different angles to try to find something interesting about my hand. Maybe a forgotten scar, a cut or bruise I could tell a story about. Unfortunatly, the only mark I had was a burn and it just healed today (stupid luck). However, I did notice a common trend between the photos – my mole. I decided to make this the emphasis of the photo and softened the background in order to make it stand out more.

7) The final create for this week was to take a picture of a tattoo, whether its yours, a fiends, or a strangers. I don’t have any unfortunately, but I have a few friends who do. One of them was nice enough to let me have a picture taken of one of hers. The butterfly in the middle represents the changes shes been through throughout her life, with the stars showing her the way. It also incorporates the initials of her family, who have always been there for her throughout.

Visual Assignments

1. (2 Stars)Spying on Peopl” for the Color Splash Assignment for my first two stars.  I am very happy with the way this one turned out. It was my first experience with random picture taking as well as with picnik. I was impressed with how easy picnik was to use.

2. (2 Stars)Fat Cat for the Fat Cat Makes Everything Better Assignment. This assignment was pretty simple, although this was not my first subject for the fat cat. I attempted another piece, but my idea turned out to be too complicated. I decided the Marilyn photo would be an interesting topic since she is obviously the focal point – being right in front with a plan background. Adding a fat cat and a picnic basket to  the background just seemed natural.

3. ( 2 Stars)Recaptcha for Recaptcha Illustrated. I had a lot of fun with this one. Luckily, I got a pretty easy captcha to work with and ran with it.

4. (3 stars) Street View for Street View Story.  I thought this was a very interesting assignment. I had never heard of Google Street View before and I thought it was pure genious. It was amazing seeing a still frame of peoples lives and seeing historical monuments from the comfort of my home. Although, it definitely made me want to go in person and be one of those still frames. For this assignment, I was exploring the Roman Colosseum and found a man who looked defeated, his head was down and it looked like he was dragging his back leg. I decided to tell the story of Biff Wellington.

5. (1 star) Colorize your World for the Colorize your World Assignment. This was the closer assignment for me, being my last required star. This was a very simple assignment, just change the color of one your favorite cartoon characters. I found that one image made the assignment very plain so i decided to add a series of Johny Bravos and his famous poses.

Comments – Until recently I did not realize we needed to be able to show our commenting so I didnt keep a record, so now im going on a search for them and may miss some. For future work I will be using Google Reader and the star method.
