A Personal Cyberinfrastructure

A personal cyberinfrastructure as proposed by Gardner Campbell is a one in which the student is asked to design and administer his or her own person digital space.  This space is defined as everything that would encompass the needs of the student to succeed in his or her field of study as well as a precursor for published works.  The Web 2.0 side of this is along with this comes the digital identity, through an evolving body of “work” essentially published, as well as the creation of an undergraduate digital biography and avatar self.  By avatar I mean a web compiled representative being. This I think will happen and this person space will be the resume you send to employers.

We are in the age of science fiction.  And just as any history major knows new ideas aren’t simply approved and implemented, they have to over throw the old ones.  Evolution is not a clean cut process that is voted upon by a senate and approved by a secondary electoral body by a 2/3 vote. (we all know nothing happens that way).  And the amount of turmoil that is involved is proportional to the scope of change proposed.  In this case there has never been an equal.  Exciting times to be sure.  Scary times.  Global times, in which the level of ignorance from any perspective will shape a great deal.  But I still believe evolution to be a state function, because I believe people are made to be good.  It will be challenging and dangerous incorporating this aspect of humanities evolution into our lives and morals.  This is a philosophers field day.
