My Education Philosophy

Waves of Education

“Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire.” -William Butler Yeats
I think this quote is such an important one to keep in mind, that I decided it would be perfect for creating my own Design philosophy. To me, this means that learning is never really finished. Whether we are high school graduates, college graduates or earning our PhD, there is always more to discover. A pail can be filled and reach its limit, but the human mind can always be learning and exploring. Instead of seeing education as a race to the finish, educators need to ignite a fiery passion for learning within their students. That “fire” will continue to burn and grow, feeding off new information and interests. Also, it is significant to recognize that a fire can be self-sufficient, lasting long after it’s original spark has been lit. This is what I wish to do in my own classroom – light a fire within the students that continues to burn long after they have left my classroom. I want the students to become interested in learning, not merely concerned with knowing what they need to know to pass. Our minds can never be filled like a pail in rain, they should be like a flame, nurtured with an education that exceeds classroom boundaries.
I really enjoyed this project because it gave me an outlet to express the words in a way that print alone cannot accomplish. The background, color, border and font were all carefully considered to illustrate the exact cohesive meaning I wished to present. (2 STARS)
