Truman Show/Jersey Shore – Mashup Assignment

I finally finished making my Trailer MashupΒ (????) and I just now realized that I may not have done it the way everyone else did. I didn’t use an actual trailer, I just used clips from The Truman Show and made a kind of pieced together thing using that movie and audio from Jersey Shore.

I had wanted at first to make a mashup of tons of different Jim Carrey movies, but I couldn’t figure out a way to make clips The Truman Show and from The Mask, Liar Liar, Ace Ventura, Bruce Almighty, and I Love You Phillip MorrisΒ fit together.

Then I started thinking about it, and since The Truman Show is essentially a secret reality TV series, I thought maybe I could mash it up with something like Big Brother, since that kind of blew people’s minds when it began because it seemed like such an invasion of privacy. After watching a couple clips on YouTube, I decided that Big Brother was not the way to go, it began 12 years ago, which to me is forever. It took me a little while to decide on Jersey Shore, but I think it’s a better choice since it’s much more relevant and provides a bigger contrast to The Truman Show.

The people on Jersey Shore are loud and wild party animals who love the camera, while Truman Burbank is a relatively reserved and obedient man who is being secretly filmed. I thought that it would be interesting to layer some audio clips of classic Jersey Shore lines with scenes from The Truman Show. The result is strange, poorly dubbed, and obviously not super realistic, Jim Carrey is no Guido, but I think it’s kind of funny.

I’m not sure why, but most of the audio clips chopped off the last little bit of the quote. It makes it sound really sloppy :( I guess I should have edited a little bit more carefully…
