Creative Commons?

So before I did a little research (really I only did a little) I thought Creative Commons was part of some government-overlord crazy copyright machine that would prevent people from using certain media. I was pleasantly surprised to find out that Creative Commons is for us.. the commoner.. who has no affiliation with a production company or a fancy studio that publishes the majority of media we see each day.

Creative Commons is actually a nonprofit that allows you, the best artist out there, to copyright your own work and allow others to use it on your own terms. CC also provides songs and videos that you can incorporate into your own creations without getting into legal trouble. Creative Commons is all about safe and efficient collaboration which is truly an amazing thing.

I think I will make use of CC licensing tools once I have created something that took a lot of my time and a lot of my energy, but also something that I put myself into. I want to license the things that apply directly to me and that should always apply to me, the creator.

The place I found most of my information was published by Creative Commons:

http://creativecommons.org/about

I also did some research on Wikipedia and learned about some of the projects involved with CC as well as some of the criticisms of the movement. Other google searches brought up random websites that basically drew from the afore-linked page published by Creative Commons.
