When I first think of storytelling a few words that come to my mind are: bedtime, legends, myths, ancient, folklore, and campfires. When I was a child I always loved stories before I went to bed. I was a bookworm and loved my bedtime stories (especially involving princesses). As I grew up, stories by the campfires became my new thing. I loved having a bonfire and sitting and listening to scary stories. Again, as I grew older, the idea of stories began to develop even more. I learned that ancient Greeks had mythical stories full of legendary heroes and flying horses and these stories shaped how they lived. They worshiped these Gods that were in their “stories”. The way they lived revolved around ancient myths. In Medieval times folklore were their stories. They told stories of kings and dragons and castles and heroic battles. These stories influenced what people wanted. People wanted to be rich and powerful and honorable.
In all, I believe storytelling to have a major influence on life. Whether they are real or not, they shape the way people think. They can influence people to be brave or how they perceive religion.
To add digital to storytelling creates a whole new world. Before the digital story telling was more of just imagination, words, and pictures in books. Digital can bring so much more creativity to a story. It brings the ideas of videos and taking your own pictures. It allows people to create their own stories or create their own version of an old timey tale. Also it expands on how many people have access to the story. Before stories were passed down from generation to generation. Sometimes they weren’t even written down and were passed by memory. Digital stories are on the web and can be accessed by millions. Digital adds so much more to just general storytelling.
