What is storytelling?

One assignment this week is to think about what storytelling is and what storytelling becomes when “digital” is inserted into the phenomenon.

For me, storytelling is the transfer of an experience to an audience. This simple definition is capable of encompassing almost any story, legend, book, or art form. I have only recently began to view art and various media as a means to tell a story. Communicating an experience is not reserved for campfires and fantastic tales.

So what is digital storytelling? I would argue that it is the use of technology and new forms of communication to tell others about our thoughts, feelings, or ideas. Every year there is a new app or website that allows people to share their experiences or their desires through simple and effective means. The digital world cannot change the fundamentals of storytelling; it only changes how we tell our stories.
