Story Time
The “What is Storytelling?” assignment was a really cool one. Everyone has their own concept of what it is so it was interesting to try to put into words what exactly I thought it was. But here is my take on it. My view on storytelling has changed a bit by the end of this week because of my new perception of the word “digital” before storytelling. It’s a different take on the word and it shows me that just because it’s not happening in person or by word of mouth, doesn’t mean the magic of the story is gone.
This post also happened to be the link that I attempted to get the five comments on. I tweeted about it once I published the post. It worked because two people commented on it, so technically I only got two comments because I responded to them both (which would make four). I think to get more comments I need to tweet about new posts more and definitely make sure to include the #ds106 hashtag!
Kurt Vonnegut
My thoughts on Kurt Vonnegut can be found here. He seems to be an interesting man with interesting ideas. I created the shape of my own story using “Rumour Has It” by Adele.
Daily Creates
We had to take a picture of something that made us angry. Recently, I got a parking citation, so I figured this was the perfect way to express my anger. I wasn’t very happy with getting a ticket. Sorry so many people park at Marshall and therefore there are hardly ever spaces available! #marywashproblems
My sidewalk scene was in Wilmington, NC earlier this year in March. My friend Grace and I went to Wilmington on a Habitat for Humanity Alternative Spring Break trip. The first night we arrived, we were given time to explore the Downtown area and just do some sightseeing. On our way back to the place where we were staying, the sun was setting and it just looked sooooo pretty so I HAD to take a picture! This was the result and I was very happy with it
Draw something that we miss…. Hmm, this one was a little harder to think about. I knew I wanted to do something from my childhood that I really enjoyed and miss now… like playing kickball, or just recess in general. But that meant drawing people and I’m not good at drawing anyways so I knew that was a no-no. So, I decided on drawing just a simple basketball. I used to love playing basketball (secretly I used to like it more than soccer sometimes) and I miss it and the friends I made from my teams throughout the years. Also, the movie Love and Basketball is awesome and I love it so I thought I would include the word “Love” in my drawing to throw in some double meaning!
I couldn’t really think of something that I owned that had a really interesting pattern. So I had my wallet with me at the time and really liked the pattern of the zipper and how it is interwoven with the leather. So I took a close up shot of this and I kinda like the way it turned out!
Tell a Story in Five Frames
This was a cool assignment, but here is a more elaborate reflection about it.
Participation Integration
My participation this week has definitely been stepped up a lot! Setting up Google Reader has been a HUGE help with this process because it gives me capabilities to see who is in my section, links to their sites, and recent blog posts. So it lets me see what new things people have posted and easy access to everything. It helps me to explore the sites of my classmates and see their creative work and make comments on what they’re doing. So I’ve made comments on several different sites this week and it’s been cool to see how different people have customized their blogs and what their thoughts have been about the assignments. I also tweet a lot about Digital Storytelling, especially when I need help:
Just published Kurt Vonnegut post but the picture, when embedded, is smaller than I would like. @cogdog how do I make it bigger? Help #ds106

Week Three To a Tee
Week Three wasn’t too bad! The workload was a little bit heavier than the first two weeks, but that’s to be expected because as the class progresses, we’ll be expected to do more things and create more. However, the assignments were pretty small and didn’t take very much time once I sat down and did them (which was nice).
I really enjoyed thinking of different ways to create the assignments. For instance, once I watched the Kurt Vonnegut video and learned about the shapes of stories, I knew I immediately wanted to choose a song. One of my favorite things about music is that lyrics can tell various kinds of stories representing the wide range of human emotions. So my thought process (as I shuffled through all the songs on my iPod) about which song to do was this: Mean by Taylor Swift… This Love by Maroon 5… to finally settle with Rumour Has It by Adele.
I’m also feeling more comfortable with my blog as each passes and I know that as more weeks go by, I will be getting more and more comfortable. I’ve even been thinking recently about keeping up with the blog once the class is over… Just because I like the name of it so much
